Enterprise task 1

Who am I - Who are they? In the first term of second year, the clients I hope to work with is something I am not totally sure or aware of. Using this as a starting point in terms of realising who I am, want to be and who I want to work with. My current aspiration is to get out there and start to come to terms with what the real world means in terms of the graphic design industry. At the moment I think I have limited skills in typography and layout, but this is something I want to expand on throughout my time here. With this in mind, I think I will be heading towards:

  • editorial/publication
  • design for print
  • branding/identity
  • communication through typographic design
My skills at the moment are not specifically polished, I really enjoy typography and layout, however, I realise how much there is to learn in terms of these. So, therefore, I hope to extensively develop my knowledge and practice within college through the typography module after Christmas and background reading and blogging thoughts and visual images.

In terms of the 4 p's within business I am most interested in promotion, in terms of branding and identity . Visually interpreting a business' intensions from mission statement to effective graphic design is something that excites me.  Business' such as Innocent Smoothies really inspire me, through their simple design, but also their Kaizen approach in total quality management. Through graphic design they can evaluate their customers opinions on all 4 p's, resulting in constant improvement. This also results in lean production and generally reducing waste in terms of time and money.

I realise that these things are very important within business and having a good understanding of basic marketing and management can result in a better chance of success. Something I want to start to analyse is how I can incorporate a Kaizen approach within my own practice. I think the most effective and approachable way is through blogging on my PPD blog, constantly evaluating my aims and objectives.
