1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

Throughout this module it has been a steep learning curve, learning completely new things such as book binding, video/editing skills, then grids and layouts. While also extending my knowledge of photoshop and illustrator. While struggling with software, especially in regards to video, I believe that I try to use what I learn, thus reinforcing it, hopefully extending how much I remember and put into practice.

2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

Researching for this brief has been a vital part of this brief, using primary research tools such as questionnaires and surveys it can increase the knowledge or understanding you have which ultimately puts one in a better position to communicate and tackle a problem.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

Within this module I have tried to evaluate throughout and I believe this has helped me to make more informed justified choices. I will continue to assess things as a whole as I go along contextualising my work as well.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

My final outcomes within this brief are definitely my biggest weakness, I wanted to concentrate on my research and trialling possible outcomes and have neglected the final pieces. I need to start designing for print from the beginning, striving to create stronger graphic design that could go live from any point and not look temporary. When looking at my trials at working for making a live blog it is obvious that my knowledge for creating a blog with an impact is severely limited. I hope to increase my software knowledge, as this will give my ideas the right execution with a stronger impact.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

Read around the subject more.

Design more seriously from the beginning.

Concentrate on getting more ideas and options down on paper.

If I don’t know how to do something well, strive to increase that knowledge e.g. blogs

Define the audience sooner.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:

(please indicate using an ‘x’)

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.

MODULE SUBMISSON FORM

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY 16TH FEBRUARY 2011 – 1pm

THEME/SUBJECT & RATIONALE

WHATIF:

Our problem was finding unknown places to go/things to do in Leeds. Through research and investigation we decided that we were going to promote our ‘Picnic in the Park’ concept, which involved several products including a map, still keeping the event quite low key.

COLLECTION 100:

For this brief I began my broadly researching fashion and how it can be presented in blogs, magazines and particularly on screen. By relating this research to people I have found a variety of information including brand identity, peoples favourite pieces of clothing, and then focussing on promoting £100 outfits.

All work must be clearly presented and labelled with your name, module code, brief title and any other appropriate information. Please present all work in an A2 plastic portfolio/sleeve – any work submitted in other formats should be discussed with the module tutor in advance of submission.. All blog. posts relevant to this module should be ‘tagged’ with the module code OUGD102.
