It has become apparent that an online presence is growing in importance for ones own promotion. It would seem very foolish to dismiss the use of sites such as:
Website
Twitter//Facebook
LinkedIn
Tumblr
Therefore I want to use these (free) platforms to promote myself.
Getting to the top of Google
Mission statements//Clear ethos
Through my online presence I will clearly state my work ethos and specify how I work. At the moment I obviously have my own outlook on the world, but with regards to ethics, eco, social issues, none of these are strong enough to dictate the way I work, or how I choose briefs. This is something that will probably change due to more experience within the industry but for now this will not influence how I want to work or who I want to work for.
Each job is individual
I believe that making each job individual is very important. Each brief is different, no two clients are the same and so therefore a personal approach is important. I hope not to interact with clients through simply emails and phone calls but also think that by creating a friendly, interactive service is important. Therefore I will try to contact each client by Skype, if we can't meet in person. This will be important to understand what the client wants and what makes them who they are. Specifically when working in identity and branding, I want to understand who each person is before I link them to a certain logo or brand.
10% off
By making the job irresistible, by offering a discounted rate of pay for my initial piece of work for every new client, this will draw in business. Not only will it encourage people to decide faster and ensure a certain amount of interest, it will also create a buzz. By creating good work and for a discounted price, hopefully this will help my promotion due to word of mouth.
Entering live briefs
By increasing my exposure to the industry through live briefs for competitions such as D&AD, YCN, ISTD etc I will not only get my name out there but if I do well then it increases my portfolio and also creates a USP for myself. This is something that could not only create added value but improve my designing and the way I work with a brief.
Reinforcement
When working with a customer I would obviously hope to keep up a relationship with them. After completion of the project I would like to ensure they are fully satisfied. I will endeavour to keep in contact with them through personalised mailshots and offers of more work etc. This is important in keeping up a good reputation.
